UNDERSTANDING YOUR HAIR
Hair grows in repeated cycles. Each cycle is broken down into 3 phases ñ Growth Phase (Hair grows for 2 to 6 years), Transitional Phase (Hair stops growing, follicle shrinks and hair is ready to fall out) and Resting Phase (Old hair falls out and new hair grows thereby starting the Growth Phase again). While it is normal to experience some hair loss as hair follicles enter the Resting Phase, excessive hair loss may not be normal and is a cause for concern.
WHAT CAUSES EXCESSIVE HAIR LOSS
In most of these cases hair loss is caused by an excessive amount of a testosterone in the system called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). DHT binds itself to hair follicles and prevents essential vitamins and nutrients from reaching these follicles, causing them to become weak and malnourished. Hair follicle is miniaturized and hair falls out prematurely. DHT has effectively shortened the Growth Phase of the hair. With time, the hair follicle produces progressively finer hairs with shorter life spans until eventually, the hair loss becomes permanent.
